Why “Mozaikand”?

A mosaic is many small pieces that make one picture. “Kand” means “town” in old Sogdian — it lives on in the name Samarkand. Together: a town of pieces.

Your Uzbekistan, piece by piece.

The founder’s story

“Our mission is simple: to make it easy for experienced guides and travellers to find each other.”

I made my first trip abroad at 19 — a week in Moscow, finding my own way. Next came Turkey: I lived in Istanbul for three months and explored it on my own. Then I went to the United States to study politics.

When I came back and started working in tourism in Uzbekistan, I saw the problems straight away. Thousands of middlemen stand between travellers and guides, and every one of them pushes the price up. Guides without experience charge high prices — and leave travellers with the wrong picture of Uzbekistan.

That is why I started Mozaikand.
